An invitation to explore the world and yourself

The 2030 SDGs Game is a multiplayer, in-person, card-based game that simulates taking the “real world” into the year 2030. Designed in Japan in 2016, this experience has become a powerful and impactful social phenomenon, earning extensive media coverage, and reaching over 350,000 participants worldwide.

    Why Make it a Game?

The SDGs are ambitious and can seem overwhelming, simply due to their volume and scope. While dramatic in their potential impact on the world, approaching them can be daunting.

A game approach has three powerful advantages:

    1. It gives people a direct experience of participating in co-creating a sustainable world (“I can do it”; “what I do makes a difference.”)
    2. It simplifies and makes accessible an extremely complex issue to a level that allows people to begin to understand, while stimulating our natural curiosity to learn more.
    3. It activates players’ natural instincts to set their aim toward a worthy goal, simultaneously building confidence and making it enjoyable, while inspiring and motivating players to take action in the real world.

    How It Works

This team simulation allows a group to immerse themselves into our current timeline, to see how we can impact the world (+/-).

Teams are trying to achieve their goals, by running projects using money and time.

Every time a team runs a project it affects the World Condition Meter, which in turn may make it easier or harder for other teams to run their own projects.

    Learning Outcomes

The SDGs can seem daunting, given the scale challenge we face. Yet this game allows individuals, teams and organisations an opportunity to understand why the SDGs are important, how to link these back to our own strategic plans and how we can make an impact, in our businesses, communities and countries.

    Key Business Benefits

    Linkedin Profile

Passionate & focused on creating a sustainable future.

With 22 years of experience working in the sustainability and community engagement space, I continue to collaborate with organisations and people who are wanting to implement positive sustainable initiatives. My passion is connecting with champions and leaders, sharing, and communicating, collaborating and partnering, and engaging with those who are driven to create a sustainable future for themselves, their organisation and the planet.

In 2016 I focused on communicating, educating, and developing United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) strategies working with organisations to assist them in implementing the goals into their strategic business plans.

Working with organisations to understand and implement the SDGs has provided many opportunities to see positive change. From being aware of the SDGs to understanding how they work in the real world is a journey we need to take. We have come a long way over the last 20 years, we have a long way to go, and time is precious. We need to collaborate, innovate, communicate, and look for solutions if we are going to create a truly sustainable future. Therefore, the SDGs as a global roadmap is so vital to successfully achieving this goal. I like to call them a strategic plan for the planet’.

In January 2020 I travelled to Japan to become a certified facilitator for the 2030 SDGs Game. This worldwide phenomenon has been played with corporations, governments, community organisations and schools. This game is a multiplayer, in-person, card-based game that simulates taking the “real world” into the year 2030. This experience has become a powerful and impactful social phenomenon, reaching people from all over the world. It helps organisations/people understand the purpose of the SDGs, and why they are so important, leading to alignment and implementation.
