Holding Memory: A Contemporary Casting Workshop
Event description
Step into a day of quiet transformation with exhibiting finalist, Nicole Voevodin-Cash, where touch, thread, and steam weave stories into form. This workshop explores a contemporary re-imagining of the ancient Japanese technique of shibori - binding and shaping through tension and heat-but here, colour gives way to memory.
Diaphanous, recycled materials are wrapped around small objects, their soft skins remembering every contour, crease, and curve. Through boiling and steaming, these ephemeral wrappings harden into ghostly vessels and become fragile impressions. This is a slow, meditative process of honouring the overlooked and the discarded.
Part ritual, part making, this workshop becomes an act of attention, preserving the subtle poetics of touch, weight, and absence.
All materials will be supplied.
