Event description

Heurich House Museum’s fan favorite program, History & Hops, is getting ready for the holiday season. Join us for a special “Holiday & Hops” on November 21st from 6-8pm.

Celebrate modern day craft beverage producers while exploring the historic home of brewmaster Christian Heurich (1842-1956) decorated for the holidays. As you explore with your tour, taste seasonal beer from Red Bear Brewing & Dad Strength Brewing and cocktails from Sangfroid Distilling, and producers themselves. Wear your favorite ugly sweater to celebrate the season!

Special to Holiday & Hops is our pop-up bottle shop where you can purchase your favorites from the night as gifts (or for yourself)!

History & Hops was created over a decade ago to celebrate the second wave of DC craft beer. After the Heurich brewery closed in 1956, there were no production breweries in the District until 2011 when DC Brau opened its doors. DC Brau was featured at the first History & Hops at the museum in 2013. From 2013 - 2017, the museum hosted 45 evenings where dozens of breweries from the region poured the first tastes of their brews before they ever opened their doors for customers.

This program is part Maker Month, a month-long celebration of local makers from November 15th to December 13th. The month culminates in the Heurich House Museum’s 12th annual Christmas Markt, which, for the first time, is happening for an entire week.

Maker Month & Christmas Markt are the museum’s largest annual fundraiser, and they provide a year’s worth of support to our Urban Manufacturing Incubator program. The Museum’s Incubator program builds upon the 130 year legacy of craftspeople and makers at the Heurich House - those who designed, built, and decorated the historic home, and those who the museum has helped over the last decade.
