In the midst of life we are in death….

Join in a moving commemoration of Holy Week in a breathtaking cathedral acoustic.

John Sheppard’s expansive and moving 'Media vita in morte sumus' is at times symphonic in its proportions, then intimate and introspective. This Lenten antiphon has been sung as part of the evening service of Compline since the Middle Ages, and this setting is a monument of English renaissance repertoire.

This is paired with Tallis' Lamentations of Jeremiah, moving from repressed weeping, to fierce grief, and shimmering moments of tender light. We also feature music by Thomas Weelkes, Orlando Gibbons and William Byrd.

A truly Tudor programme!
