Invisible & Increasing: Homelessness of Older Women
Event description
Invisible & Increasing: Homelessness of Older Women
An evening of film, conversation, and community action.
Join us for a powerful and moving event during Homelessness Week as we shine a spotlight on one of Australia’s fastest-growing – and most invisible – housing crises: the homelessness of older women.
The evening features a special screening of Frances, a short film made in the Illawarra that tells the real story of a woman navigating housing insecurity later in life. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Director Sharon Lewis, who brings deep local insight and compassion to this vital issue.
A panel discussion will follow, bringing together advocates, frontline workers, and women with lived experience to discuss what’s really happening to older women at risk – and what needs to change.
To close, we will be uplifted by a performance from the Katandra Choir, whose voices celebrate resilience, connection, and hope.
This event is proudly presented by the Older Women’s Network NSW, SAHSSI (Supported Accommodation and Homelessness Services Shoalhaven Illawarra), and KCR Radio. Together, we are calling for visibility, justice, and action.
All are welcome.
