Event description

Welcome to our awesome kid's programs here on the farm! We have two programs combined in one to make Homeschool on the Farm!

Our Kids Yoga + Farm Animals program will give children skills in mindfulness, emotional regulation, breathing techniques a knowledge base of yoga, as well as some fun engaging learning time with our farm animals.

We will then break for lunch and an opportunity for those just doing one of the smaller classes to depart or arrive.

Next our Natural Learners program will give children an opportunity to build community, a better understanding of nature and wilderness skills, a growth mindset, as well as get some more time with our farm animals.

This is a drop-off program, but parents are also welcome to hang out under our carport area (with Wi-Fi), or watch while your child is here.

Need a shorter time frame? Check out just the Kids Yoga + Farm Animals class, or just the Natural Learners class.

*Parents are always welcome, just let me know ahead of time if you intend to stay for part or the whole time*

Examples of natural learners activities:  learning types of trees and how to identify them, natural arts and crafts, animal tracking, making pine needle tea, grooming and training with farm animals, fairy houses, forest games, and so much more.

Our yoga flows, breathing exercises, and mindfulness techniques will pair well with our natural learners themes.

*We will typically take a walk to Falls Lake to our special spot for nature activities. We also have about 1 acre of woods on our farm to play in.

Location and other details:

Avery Family Farm 1923 Shaw Rd., Durham, NC 27704

We are a 10 min walk from Falls Lake and part of the Mountain to Sea Trail. (parents would be welcome to take a walk during class)

Sessions will happen rain or shine, except in the case of severe weather. We will communicate with all parents prior to session dates about any weather concerns. We have covered and uncovered areas, but everything will be outside so kids will need to dress according to the weather.

Depending on the number of adult guides at each session we can accommodate between 10-20 kids per session.

Our Farm:

We are a small family farm focused on stress relief and healing events for people with our farm animals. We also have extensive gardens and a small plant nursery. Our passion is reconnecting people with nature and animals, and spreading a love of plants and nature.

Animals:

We have well trained farm animals, who are highly socialized and love people. These include goats, sheep, horses, pigs, and dogs. We also have ducks and a goose that are lots of fun to watch and collect eggs from.

Adult Guides:

Amanda Avery: Hi I am the owner of the farm, and I will be the main lead adult guide. I was a public school teacher for 11 years (Science and Math), and a tutor for 8 years (K-12 all subjects). 8 years ago I moved towards a simpler life on the farm and haven't looked back since. I love animals, nature, music, dance, reading, and sharing all of these things with my daughter (whom I am homeschooling). I am also certified and/or experienced in a variety of healing arts such as reiki, guided meditation, life coaching, healing with crystals, and yoga. I am looking forward to sharing all of these things with the kids (and adults) who participate in the programs here on our farm.

Lindsay: Lindsay is a mom of 5, former homeschooler, and small homestead farmer. She is one of our animal caretakers and loves all things nature, animals, kids, and homesteading. We are so excited to have her join our team.

Please contact averyfamilyfarm@gmail.com or text 9192363244 with questions or inquiries about leaders in training. We also welcome adults interested in helping lead programs to reach out.

All sessions are refundable up until 2 weeks before the date. Under 2 weeks we are happy to reschedule you to a different session.

Looking forward to learning with you!
