An Evening with Shaun Tan

Join us for a very special evening with internationally acclaimed illustrator, author, and filmmaker Shaun Tan, as we celebrate the launch of his new graphic novel, Hometown.

We’re thrilled to welcome Shaun back to Kinokuniya, where he’ll be in conversation with book illustrator Phil Leslie. Together, they’ll explore Shaun’s creative process, the inspiration behind Hometown, and the themes of identity, belonging, and the world around us.

The evening coincides with a special exhibition of Shaun Tan’s work in the Wedge Gallery, on display from 16 October to 3 November, where a number of Shaun's prints will be available for purchase.

Explore the gallery, hear Shaun speak, watch a live drawing demonstration, and have your books signed by the author.

ABOUT SHAUN TAN

Shaun Tan is an artist, writer, and filmmaker from Perth, Western Australia. He is the recipient of an Academy Award, the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award and the Kate Greenaway Medal. Shaun lives in Melbourne with his wife, two children and various plants, animals, and machines.

ABOUT PHIL LESLIE

Phil Lesnie is a Sydney-based illustrator of children’s books, and the proud owner of a cat who sits on wet paintings. They work primarily in watercolour, because in a watercolour painting even mistakes look lovely; if you look closely, you can literally see paw prints. They are the illustrator of Feathers, which was short-listed for the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards in 2018, and of The Curiosities, which won the Aurealis Award for best illustrated work in 2022. They have also illustrated several CBCA Notable Books. But their cat, Bianca, is notable every day of her life.
