Homing: The Poet’s Tendency Towards Place
Event description
Homing: The Poet’s Tendency Towards Place
Free Virtual Writing Workshop
Join Lucky Jefferson and Jessie Leitzel for a free 1.5-hour virtual writing workshop designed for writers interested in placemaking.
The nature of poetry has long been tied to place. For centuries this pull has captivated artists, whether that be as the backdrop or the focal point of their writing. In this workshop, participants will redefine place writing as foundational to the poet. Through our study of place—its image, its lingering, and how it makes a home for the poet within their work—participants will pinpoint where writing lives for them and how today’s changing concepts of place may inform their future work.
Drawing on examples from selected poems, participants will unpack the beating heart of these pieces to pin down why a concept of "home" is so vital to their success. The workshop will then turn participants towards their own writing and will move through exercises to unearth the spaces, on the physical plane and in memory, to which our writing begs us to return.
