About the Avalon Centre

The Avalon Centre's vision is to "provide hope, stability and support for the most vulnerable members in our community." Avalon was established in 1987 and offers a range of programs including: affordable homes with tailored support for people experiencing homelessness; inner-city street deliveries of clothing, bedding and toiletries; and drop-in days at their Malvern base. Avalon is run entirely by volunteers and relies solely on donations and grants.

About Solus

Solus performs contemporary arrangements of traditional Irish and Scottish music alongside original material.

Jenny Newcombe (violin and viola) has been part of the Melbourne Irish and Scottish music worlds for some time, playing in bands, pub sessions and festivals. She enjoys playing both folk and classical music.

Jon Fitzgerald (guitar and vocals) is an experienced guitarist who embraces diverse musical styles. Jon was a member of D’Volv – an Australian guitar trio that released two critically-acclaimed CDs and toured within Australia and South-East Asia.

(Jon is a volunteer driver for the Avalon street delivery program.)

About the venue

For the event our hosts Annie and Wally have kindly offered the use of their home - a light and airy house set in a natural bush setting. Annie works as a volunteer mentor for Avalon flat residents, and also as a member of the street delivery team.

There will be parking directions for attendees on arrival.
