Housing Policy with Chris Minns and Chris Bishop

Sydney YIMBY and the Centre for Independent Studies jointly present a forum on housing policy, featuring Chris Minns, the Premier of NSW, and Chris Bishop, the New Zealand Minister for Housing. Both speakers are delivering world-leading reforms of housing policy. They offer perspectives from both sides of politics.

The Hon Chris Minns is Premier of NSW. The NSW government is implementing radical changes in planning policy to build 377,000 homes within five years. These include high housing targets for local councils, transport-oriented development and low- and mid-rise housing.

Hon Chris Bishop is New Zealand Minister of Housing, Infrastructure, Resource Management Act Reform and Transport, among other responsibilities. Under the previous Labour government, New Zealand introduced bipartisan zoning reforms that attracted wide international attention. The new National government is continuing and extending these reforms. The override of local restrictions in Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington and the demolition of heritage buildings have been especially controversial.

Melissa Neighbour will chair the event. Melissa is Deputy Chair of Sydney YIMBY with over 15 years' experience as a town planner. Sydney YIMBY is a grassroots community advocacy group campaigning for abundant housing in Sydney.
