Learn all about self-publishing in a 1-hour seminar followed by a self-publishers’ roundtable discussion.

Join author David Tensen for this practical workshop demystifying the self-publishing journey. David will share insider knowledge gained from his experience selling thousands of books worldwide and guiding numerous authors to profitable publication. Learn about pricing strategies, publishing models, and essential tools while exploring the pros and cons of various approaches. This interactive session will equip you with first-hand insights for bringing your book into the world, avoiding common pitfalls, and maximising your success as an independent author. Be sure to bring your publishing questions for personalised guidance.

David's workshop will be followed by a 1-hour roundtable discussion about self-publishing, chaired by Roderick Centre's Nicole Crowe.
                 

Learning outcomes

As part of this workshop, you will:

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the self-publishing ecosystem, including various platforms, models, and their respective advantages and limitations.

  • Gain practical knowledge of pricing strategies that maximise both reach and profitability for your specific book genre and target audience.

  • Learn to select and effectively utilise essential tools for formatting, design, distribution, and marketing your self-published work.

  • Understand the key to good sales and common pitfalls indie authors make.

          

Format

This is an online workshop & panel with a focus on industry knowledge; it will be hosted via Zoom. This workshop is suitable for writers of all levels and writing backgrounds.

Self-Publishers' Roundtable

Following his 1-hour seminar, David Tensen joins fellow self-published writers Gillian Long and Dr Amanda Nixon for a 1-hour roundtable discussion, chaired by Roderick Centre's own Victoria Kuttainen. This panel-style discussion will shine a light on the experiences of local self-published writers, and provide attendees with helpful opinions and insights.

       

About David

David Tensen is an Australian poet, author, and teacher whose evocative writing has touched readers worldwide. His self-published books have sold thousands of copies globally, and he has guided numerous authors through profitable self-publishing journeys. David also teaches and researches small business education at the University of the Sunshine Coast, alongside working part-time as an aged care chaplain. He is passionate about demystifiying the self-publishing world and bringing peoples books into the world.

About Gillian

Gillian Long is an independent academic with a PhD in creative historical research. She is the author of several novels published under her own imprint, and short stories, which she shares on her blog. https://gillianlong.wordpress.com

About Amanda

Dr Amanda Nickson is a wife, mother, Professional and Pastoral Supervisor, Social Worker, Christian Pastor, author and speaker. She has worked in a variety of positions in government, non-government organisations, academia and private practice. She currently runs her own business in training, supervision, social work services, organizational consultancy and  motivational speaking.
