How Gambling Fuels Inequities: A kōrero with PGF Services
Event description
How Gambling Fuels Inequities: A kōrero with PGF Services
Open invitation for a kōrero/conversation around the harm gambling causes in our communities, and how harmful gambling increases inequitable outcomes.
In Ōtautahi/Christchurch, 66% of Class 4 pokie venues (pubs, clubs and TABs) are located in the areas with the highest levels of deprivation. We want to discuss how this impacts the community, and how community funding from pokies doesn’t make up for the harm caused to our whānau by these addictive machines.
The DIA is looking into strengthening regulations (rules) to minimise harm from Class 4 gambling (pokies) in New Zealand. We will discuss the opportunity we have to put in submissions to reduce harm caused by pokies. Our conversation will also help clarify participants’ experiences and questions about gambling.
People will leave this event with a better understanding of the impacts of harmful gambling, and how to access support for themselves or others.
