Bio:

Ryuichi Fujimura is a Sydney based dancer with a unique journey into the world of dance. Following his migration from Japan to Australia, discovering the magic of dance when joining Guild Dance Theatre in his late 20’s marked the beginning of a transformative chapter in his life. After his relocation to Sydney in mid-90’s, he continued to dance and began his professional performance career in 2003 at the age of 39, participating in ensemble dance and theatre productions under the direction and choreography of both Australian and international artists. Since he began his own choreographic practice in 2013, he has created a number of site-specific/responsive and theatre performances, including his acclaimed solo trilogy HERE NOW. How I Pracitce My Religion is one of the three chapters comprising the trilogy. You can find more information on www.ryuichifujimura.com

“He is a convincing performer whose intensity of thought is expressed in relatively simple yet dynamic actions. His cultural inheritance emerges in his approach and manner rather than in movement style”

    - Jill Sykes, Sydney Morning Herald

“Fujimura is charismatic and dances with love and feeling. His magnetic performance shares with us the mixture of sacredness and whimsy that is his dance practice. It’s a purely joyful experience to watch as he reacts to his impulses and dances in a free form and liberated style.”

    - Brianna McCarthy, The Buzz from Sydney
