These are free events designed for members of the public clinical mental health workforce in Victoria, (staff employed at Area Mental Health Services, Forensicare or mental health staff from RCH). Other workforce in partner organisations, such as AOD organisations or ACCHOs, may sometimes be eligible. Please note, if you do register for an event and it is not clear you are part of the intended audience, your registration will be confirmed two weeks prior to the event start date, or earlier.

NOTE: THIS IS A 2 X 1/2 DAY TRAINING. PARTICIPANTS MUST ATTEND BOTH DAYS.

This training aligns to Capability 10 (Delivering compassionate care, support and treatment) of the Victorian Mental Health & Wellbeing Workforce Capability Framework.

This module introduces learners to the concept of allyship and being an ally to the consumer workforce. Learners will explore why allies are critical for consumer workers, what it means to be an ally in practice, and a range of challenges and opportunities for allyship. The course will reflect on allyship in other marginalised communities and include pragmatic strategies to apply in everyday situations. This course is designed for clinicians, members of the carer workforce and other non-consumers working in the mental health sector.

All our courses are interactive, based on adult learning principles and learner focussed. We believe that adults approach learning with a wealth of knowledge and experience to contribute. A combination of learning styles will be incorporated into the training including interactive, experiential and didactic. Our approach recognises the constant interweaving of theory and practice cultivating critical thinking and reflection, appreciating the contested nature of ideas and world views, and perspective taking through adopting ethical, human rights and social justice lenses.
