How to measure what matters: new approaches to impact and evaluation
Overview
A free, online seminar exploring how charities and other organisations can take a creative, whole-organisation approach to measuring their impact.
Blue Cabin is a charity which focuses all its work on care experienced people. And in 2021, the way that Blue Cabin measures its impact changed, thanks to a partnership with tialt - a team which specialises in evaluation frameworks that are rooted in care, collaboration, and accessibility.
Jenny Young (director of Blue Cabin) and Dougie Lonie (co-founder and co-director of tialt) will share how the two organisations have worked together to develop a whole-organisation approach to learning, evaluation and impact - one grounded in creativity , care and genuine partnership.
Jenny and Dougie will share what's worked and what hasn't. And what's been learnt along the way.
We will also hear from funders Nicky Lappin from The Segelman Trust and Stacey Lamb from The Leathersellers' Foundation - about what they find most interesting and innovative in current impact practice, as well as their reflections on what shapes and influences the evidence funders ask to see from the organisations they support.
You will leave with:
Practical ideas you can apply in your own organisation
An understanding of the principles behind relational, embedded evaluation practice
Insights into taking a whole-organisation approach
An insight into funders' perspectives on measuring and evidencing impact
This event is perfect for:
Charities and non-profit organisations
People working in the arts, culture and care sectors
Trusts and Foundations
About Blue Cabin
Blue Cabin is a North East England-based organisation that develops and strengthens relationships between care-experienced individuals and the people in their lives through creative activities. Founded in 2016, Blue Cabin's work spans creative life story work, early years music-making, and capacity building for practitioners - all underpinned by a trauma-informed approach and a commitment to creativity at the heart of their values.
About tialt
tialt (there is an alternative) is a research and evaluation consultancy that develops human-centred, creative, and participatory tools and methods for exploring the impact of arts and cultural work. tialt works across the UK and internationally with major funders and grassroots organisations, building evaluation frameworks that prioritise care, ethics, and learning over extractive data collection.
About The Segelman Trust
The Segelman Trust is an independent grant-making charity. It makes grants to organisations and projects working in the UK to ensure that young people with care experience - children in care and care leavers - receive love, support and opportunities to lead happy, connected, successful lives. The Trust also funds work which strengthens families facing multiple and complex challenges, so that children can grow up happily and safely in their family network.
About The Leathersellers' Foundation
The Leathersellers works to enable individuals and communities by working with charities; foster opportunity through education; and support the leather industry. The Leathersellers' Foundation provides over £4m in grant funding each year across multiple grants programmes, including the provision of multi-year, unrestricted grants to UK charities working to prevent and mitigate the harm of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and direct grants to undergraduate students who have experience of care.
