The idea that one type of governance can be applied to every type of company is dangerous. Companies have an identifiable lifecycle. Governance must be correctly tailored to fit at each stage. What works for large established institutions will not work for small agile start-ups.

The Stone & Chalk community is characterised by companies that are moving from foundation through a period of rapid growth and acquisition of scale.
Only as the company leaves the community does it start to encounter a need for the governance structures and practices that are the subject of most board and director education or guidelines.

Julie Garland McLellan, Boardroom Expert will touch on the standard governance concepts and their application to theoretical established boards, followed by a deep dive into the specific governance needs for startups and scaleups, this includes:

Getting access to directors with specific skills that are relevant at each stage of growth
Managing the tension between shareholder representation and director contribution
Developing appropriate advisory boards, panels, and governance to meet the company needs
Preparing for listing and the ‘ASX Standard’ governance
Setting expectations regarding director tenure, remuneration, and behaviours

KEY BENEFITS OF ATTENDING:

Understand board composition and how to set it
Avoid Board conflict as companies develop
Drive board performance and value add
Choose correct advisory and governing board models

Keynote Speaker:

Julie Garland McLellan - CEO; Advisor to Boards & Directors at The Director's Dilemma
