How to Sew - Beginner Sewing Workshop @ Brunswick Tool Library
Description
Got a sewing machine sitting in the cupboard? Maybe it was your grandmother's, or your mum passed it on, and you've never quite worked out how to use it. Bring it along. This hands-on workshop will help you get to know it.
We'll start together with the basics: the parts of the machine, winding and inserting the bobbin, threading up, and sewing a straight seam. Learning on your own machine means you'll know how to set it up when you get home.
Then you choose what to work on:
Make something small. Sew a scrunchie, a baby or pet bandana, or a cord keeper. All materials are provided.
Bring your own project. Work on a repair, an alteration, something you've already started or something new, with help close by.
No machine? Come anyway. We'll have a few for communal use.
The workshop is led by BTL volunteers Karina and Karena. No experience is needed, and beginners are very welcome.
Bring along: your sewing machine (with its power cord, foot pedal and manual), something to repair or work on, fabric or a pattern, and your own thread if you'd prefer.
We provide: a few sewing machines, materials for the small projects, thread, needles, pins, scissors and snacks.
Places are capped at 15 so everyone gets hands-on time.
