Event description
OCEAN LOVERS TALKS - GOING WITH THE FLOW: EXPLORATION FROM THE RIVERS TO THE OPEN OCEAN
Join Associate Professor Tristan Salles in this talk that discusses how ancient organisms used rivers to promote biodiversity in marine life. The Earth’s surface is the living skin of our planet and connects the physical, chemical, and biological systems that evolve over time. Rivers have transferred nutrients from the mountains to the oceans as they flow downstream over hundreds of millions of years, driving the diversification of marine life.
Associate Professor Tristan Salles is an Associate Professor at Sydney University in the School of Geosciences and has worked on a diverse range of projects related to Earth surface processes. His research areas revolve around sediment transport and sedimentary systems, geodynamics, and landscape evolution, carbonate platforms, and ocean dynamics. His main activities consist in the design and implementation of open-source numerical codes that improve our understanding of the complex interactions between sedimentary systems, climatic forcing, and the physical processes that erode, transport, and deposit sediments.
