Are you tired of drawing naked people? Want to feel like an old portrait artist painting in a smokey French salon?*

Historic Portraiture is your chance to work from a live historic interpreter modeling an exquisite, historically accurate 17th century gown. Campy, historic, and bourgeoisie all in one night.

First, you'll get a look at the undergarments and structure of 17th century clothing by doing warm up sketches with short poses in undergarments. We'll talk fashion and underwear history, so chic.

Then, watch how an 17th century Lady would get dressed in her best gown and draw or paint a 1hr long seated pose.

ALL Styles welcome; Media of choice, painting encouraged! 17th century inspired snacks and supplies provided, BYOB (Bev and Berets)

Model Bio:

Aeris N. Carter (she/her)

Aeris is historian of cross-cultural exchanges in the early colonial Americas. She holds a Master of History and Business Administration degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and has just completed the coursework for her Master of Anthropology degree at Harvard University. Her thesis is in progress. Growing up in a rural Southern community with few stores, Aeris began making historical costumes at age sixteen out of old bedsheets and zip ties. She completed a high school senior project on feminine fashions of the American Revolution under Janea Whitacre of Colonial Williamsburg’s Margaret Hunter Millinery Shop, which she presented at Wayne Community College and the Wayne County Museum. She went on to complete internships in wardrobe production practicum and theatrical costume construction with PlayMakers Repertory Company at UNC Chapel Hill while minoring in the Dramatic Arts. Aeris considers herself a somewhat messy seamstress who devises creative solutions to her stitchy problems and produces bold outcomes.

Aeris has worked as a historical interpreter with the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum for two years. She’s worked in museums, universities, + academic presses for five years. She is most inspired by early seventeenth century silhouettes and aesthetic sensibilities in fashion, furniture, + architecture.
