HR Behind Closed Doors; HR’s Role in Shaping AI Strategy
Description
Who’s shaping the AI strategy in your organisation, and is HR in the room?
Join us on Thursday, 26th November for a light breakfast and meaningful conversation with fellow senior HR and People Leaders.
Last time we gathered, the HR Leaders in the room proposed this session's topic, 'What is HR’s influence on leadership as AI strategy gets written?'
HR is expected to deliver on it. When roles are redesigned, when capability gaps open up, when people ask whether their job still has a future, when the board wants a view on “AI readiness” by next quarter, those questions land on our desks. Yet many of us are still being handed the strategy rather than helping to shape it.
The research points to where the opportunity is;
Harvard Business Impact’s 2025 Global Leadership Development Study found that 52% of organisations say they need to focus more on building an AI-ready culture, yet only 36% say their leaders currently excel at treating AI as a core part of strategy and operations. Less than a third of learning leaders say their leaders excel at understanding key concepts in AI, data analytics and cybersecurity.
That gap is not a technology problem. It’s a leadership, culture and capability problem, which is exactly where HR lives.
The same research argues that learning is “no longer a topic reserved for HR or L&D”, and that the leaders who thrive will be those who ask, “How fast and how well are we learning? What’s getting in the way?” It also describes leaders dealing with the human side effects of AI, including reduced motivation and a diminished sense of identity at work. Who do they turn to for that? Us.
What we’ll explore together
How do we move from being consulted after the decision to being at the table before it?
What does it take to earn credibility with the CEO and board on AI, without pretending to be technologists?
How do we balance the race for digital fluency with protecting the human capabilities that matter most?
Where is your organisation really on culture, capability and trust, and what’s getting in the way?
What are you seeing that you can’t say out loud at work?
This isn’t a presentation. It’s a small, curated group of peers co-creating a meaningful discussion, sharing what’s working (and what isn’t), and leaving with sharper thinking and a few new connections.
