Ngarrpadla Daphney Paringangki Rickett is a Kaurna, Ngarrindgeri, Latji Latji, Nharangga woman and a respected Elder. She has dedicated most of her life to her Aboriginal community and is committed to empowering her people and passing on knowledge and skills in the hope of a brighter future in education and employment, and better way of life for Australia’s First Nation’s people. She is also dedicated to acts of reconciliation, believing that working together with her Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal sisters and brothers assists in developing meaningful relationships. Daphney’s goal is to have a positive outcome, mutual respect and a deeper understanding of Culture and Country.

Ngarrpadla has been painting for around 30 years, sharing her knowledge and skills with many. She has a passion for engaging community. She has been involved in many workshops, community events, Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week activities to name a few. Ngarrpadla’s dynamic artworks, made in a variety of media, can be seen in various exhibitions throughout the state and lovingly on display in people’s homes.

Ranger D Dolores Amos, is a white woman of German descent. She is a conservation land manager with 35years experience working and living amongst our natural world. Ranger D uses her knowledge of native plants and animals as a conduit to learn about Australia’s shared histories. Her connection with Country and her knowledge of the ecology of the Fleurieu Peninsula led her to investigate the use of natural resources as food, medicine, art and implements. Ranger D has spent the last 25 years learning from and working alongside members of the Kaurna community and other First Nations peoples throughout Australia.

Ngarrpadla Daphney and Ranger D have been working together for 8 years and their knowledge supports those who are keen to learn more about Aboriginal art and culture.

At this ART WORKSHOP, Ngarrpadla will discuss First Nation’s symbols and their meaning and will share Dreaming stories. You will be invited to use the symbols to create your own story on a prepared and dried Eucalyptus leaf. This will be done in a relaxed atmosphere where people can softly yarn and share stories.

You will leave with a special and meaningful leaf art of your own to take home.

The sharing of knowledge, and the process, will be treated respectfully and recognised for its unique place in Australia’s First Nations peoples past, present and future.

Children 8+ are welcome with adult supervision.
