Ngarrpadla Daphney Paringangki Rickett is a Kaurna, Ngarrindgeri, Latji Latji, Nharangga woman and a respected Elder. She has dedicated most of her life to her Aboriginal community, is a well-known artist and is famous for her knowledge of Traditional use of plants found in Australia. She has extensive knowledge about the growing, harvesting, preparation, textures and flavours of bushfood plants and how to use them in an everyday setting.
Ngarrpadla has a passion for sharing her story and making it easy for those who want to dip into Australian native foods and engage in respectful learning of Australia’s Aboriginal art and Culture.

Ranger D Dolores Amos, is a white woman of German descent. She is a conservation land manager with 35years experience working and living amongst our natural world. Ranger D uses her knowledge of native plants and animals as a conduit to learn about Australia’s shared histories. Her connection with Country and her knowledge of the ecology of the Fleurieu Peninsula has led her to investigate the use of natural resources as food, medicine, art and implements. Ranger D has spent the last 25 years learning from and working alongside members of the Kaurna community and other First Nations peoples throughout Australia.

Ngarrpadla Daphney and Ranger D have been working together for 8 years and their knowledge supports those who are keen to learn more about Aboriginal art and culture.

At this AUSTRALIAN NATIVE FOOD PLANTS workshop, Aunty Daphne and Ranger D will discuss historical and contemporary use of natural resources and their unique place in Australia’s environment. They will share examples of native plants, wood and other artefacts and then connect to what is eaten. The table is a display to behold! You will have the opportunity to experience a plate of tastings and a cup of native herbal tea.

Please note, it is difficult to cater for dietary requirements however, some adaptions can be made such as leaving the wattle seed cream off the scones or serving wattle seed cream and quandong jam (GF) for a flavour tasting experience.

Children over 8+ are welcome with adult supervision.
