Interpreting Our Heritage

ICOMOS Aotearoa New Zealand and Historic Places Aotearoa are holding a joint conference in Napier, New Zealand, on the theme of Interpreting Heritage.

New Zealand’s rich cultural heritage and history has been packaged, presented, and interpreted for over 100 years. Much has changed in this time - the audience, the purpose, the technology and method.

What has driven these changes? Have the changes been successful?

Our conference will address this theme through papers, discussions and fieldtrips.

Thursday 9 October

Field trips, 1pm to 5pm, to:

  • Otatara Pa

  • Hastings CBD architecture

  • Whare Ra, Havelock North

Each field trip will be lead by a knowledgeable guide

Friday 10 October 11.30am to 4pm

  • Papers

  • Informal evening drinks

Saturday 11 October 9am to 5pm

  • Papers

  • Walking field trips, to either Art Deco Napier, or the Matthews House, Napier

  • Conference dinner at Portofino Restaurant, Clive Square

Sunday 12 October 9am to 3pm
