BottledSnail Productions presents Agatha Christie's "Witness for the Prosecution"

After a highly successful, sold out season in 2023, BottledSnail Productions will stage an encore season of Agatha Christie’s play Witness for the Prosecution as part of the Victoria Law Foundation’s Law Week in May 2026.

Patrons are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes early for an original "Old Bailey" court immersive experience as they find their seat before the show begins.

Witness for the Prosecution centres around Leonard Vole, a young man who stands accused of murdering a rich widow. The stakes are high with shocking witness testimony, impassioned outbursts from the dock and a young man’s fight to escape the hangman’s noose.

Generally regarded as one of Christie’s most accomplished plays, this suspenseful thriller keeps audiences guessing until the very end.

Week 1: Thu 21, Fri 22, Sat 23, Sun 24 May 2026

Week 2: Thu 28, Fri 29, Sat 30 May 2026

All performances which are evening shows commence at 7pm (recommended arrival 15 minutes early to find your seat/see the immersive experience) except for Sun 24 May 2026 which is a matinee show commencing at 2pm.

Transport and access

Although the Old Magistrate’s Court forms part of the Gaol complex, patrons are advised to use the door located at 325–343 Russell Street, which is less than a minute’s walk from the main entrance. Please keep an eye out for our wayfinding signage, or refer to our directions on Google Maps here.

Patrons are also encouraged to arrive up to 15 minutes before the show to enjoy the full spectacle of the venue including an immersive experience before the show begins.

The Jury

If you purchase a jury seat, it is critical that you arrive on time and prior to the show’s commencement.

Any latecomers with jury tickets will be redirected to the gallery, as we are unable to interrupt our actors and the play in order to seat you.

Accessibility

Due to the building's heritage status, our designated entrance for the Gaol does not have an exterior ramp. However, we can make arrangements to assist your accessibility to our venue with prior notice.

Comfort

The Old Magistrate’s Court is a Victorian and local council heritage building, and some of our audience will be seated on wooden pews. We understand that this might not match the comforts of modern theatres or cinemas, and you are very welcome to bring a cushion along with you.
