Hugelkultur & Lasagne Beds - from organic waste to dinner!
Event description
Learn about Hügelkultur and lasagne bed gardening, two methods that enhance garden soil using layering and mounding techniques with materials like untreated wood, green waste, and compost. These methods create a decomposing sponge effect, reducing the need for watering. They are perfect for building up garden beds or filling raised beds with nutrient-rich soil ready for planting.
Participants will be outside and under the trees in the garden and the session will begin with a theory component before moving into the garden to demonstrate construction. Participants are asked to bring a chair, wear a hat, suitable clothing and supportive shoes.
Supported by the City of Stirling, this workshop forms part of the Inglewood & Mount Lawley Community Garden Open Day where tours of the garden, refreshments for purchase, plant and seed sales and activities for the children will be available from 9:30am - 1:30pm.
