Join Hugh Mackay and Mhairi Fraser in conversation about the main themes in Hugh’s recently published book, The Way We Are. The conversation will focus on the issues in contemporary society including social isolation, the gender revolution, the Baby Boomers' legacy, the impact of social media, the rise of poverty and its threat to the nature of Australian society, the decline of religion, and the need to recover the lost art of listening.

Includes drinks, nibbles, book sales and author signing.

MEET HUGH

Hugh Mackay is a social psychologist and bestselling author. His non-fiction covers social analysis, psychology, communication and ethics. He is also the author of nine novels. Hugh has had a sixty-year career in social research and was a weekly newspaper columnist for twenty-five years. He is a fellow of the Australian Psychological Society and the Royal Society of New South Wales and has been awarded honorary doctorates by five Australian universities. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2015 and is currently an honorary professor in the School of Medicine and Psychology at the Australian National University. He lives in Canberra.

MEET MHAIRI

Mhairi Fraser made a tree change from Sydney to Goulburn in 2008. She has worked as a frontline social worker and as a community advocate for renewable energy benefit sharing. Mhairi believes that a worthwhile life is a life lived for others and to this end volunteers for a range of community projects and groups. Preserving and enhancing the cultural, heritage, environmental and artistic life of the region is a passion. Mhairi met Hugh Mackay in 2014 when she approached him to participate in the Goulburn Connects Sustainability Festival that year. They have been friends and "conversation partners" ever since.
