Human Factors Analysis Tools (HFAT) - Public Course

Our HFAT® training course provides a foundational understanding of how human factors impact health and safety performance. Designed for experienced incident investigators, the course will enable delegates to analyse why individuals acted as they did and develop recommendations that drive positive change. • Explain key human factors in HSE, including safety culture, behaviour analysis, ergonomics, and human error
• Identify how these factors influence behaviour in incidents
• Extract key behaviours at all organisational levels related to critical incident factors
• Distinguish between intentional non compliances and unintentional errors in investigations
• Analyse behavioural triggers and consequences
• Describe error types and causal factors
• Apply human error analysis (HEA) to prevent future errors
• Develop recommendations and corrective actions to shape desired behaviours

Who should attend?

We normally ask for delegates to have the following:

• A minimum of 2 years operational management and / or HSE experience
• Trained in incident investigation methodology to competent level, and practised in its use
• Desire to deepen their understanding and application of human factors tools and techniques, and promote their use
• Completion and submission of pre-course work (approx 3 hrs) by an agreed deadline
• Fluent in written and spoken English

• Behaviour extraction, including case study
• Classification of errors and intentional non compliance
• ABC analysis, including case study
• Human error analysis, including case study

Day 2

• Developing recommendations
• Use of the eHFAT®
• Broader safety culture issues, plus model demonstration
• Interview techniques
• Case study to practise skills
