Event description

"Voices of Resilience" is a Human Library event held during Refugee Week, where participants can "check out" human books—refugees sharing personal stories of resilience, courage, and hope. The event fosters empathy, challenges stereotypes, and promotes inclusion by encouraging dialogue between refugees and the wider community. It celebrates cultural diversity, raises awareness of refugee experiences, and inspires participants to support a more inclusive and compassionate society.

This event is coordinated by the Northern Beaches Multicultural Network, who will be joined by local author Melinda Ham as the event MC and a guest speaker. Melinda is the author of The Lucky Ones: Stories of Australian Refugee Journeys published in 2024. Melinda has been a journalist and writer for more than 30 years. She now creates content for large organisations, universities and not-for-profits. Continuing her passion for refugee issues, Melinda has volunteered as a community speaker, tutor and mentor.

What to expect:

  • Hear an inspiring talk about refugee experiences and challenges by Melinda Ham
  • Participate in Human Library sessions, where local refugees will generously share their personal stories and experiences
  • Enjoy tasty local food
  • Music, entertainment, connection, discussion and more!

This is a FREE event; however, bookings are essential.

Doors open for registration at 9:45, with the event starting at 10:00 a.m.
