Hunter Nexus | October 2025
Event description
Join us for the next Hunter Nexus event, The Business of Sport, where business, government, and industry leaders come together to explore how sport can provide practical lessons for leadership, high performance, and organisational success in the Hunter region. With thanks to our sponsor NGM Group.
David Gallop, former CEO of Football Federation Australia and the National Rugby League, and current Chairman of Venues NSW and Cricket NSW board member, will share insights on leading high-performing teams, navigating complex stakeholder networks, and driving growth in competitive and dynamic sectors.
A key theme will also highlight the Hunter as a thriving sports region: a community of passionate participants and supporters, a nursery for champions across disciplines, a host of top-tier events, and a growing centre for sports science, exercise, and physical activity research. Discussions will focus on leveraging these assets to strengthen the Hunter’s position as Australia’s leading regional sports hub and maximise opportunities from major events, including Brisbane hosting the 2032 Olympics.
Joining Gallop in a panel discussion are Philip Gardner, CEO of the Wests Group, and Tain Drinkwater, CEO of the Newcastle Jets, who will explore the intersection of sport, business, and regional economic growth, sharing insights on innovation, leadership, and sustaining high performance in both commercial and community-focused enterprises.
This is a must-attend event for business, sports, government, academic, and community leaders interested in leadership, performance, and the future of the Hunter’s sports and business ecosystems.
