Hunters Hill Music Presents Swirl, Swoop & Dance

Youth reigns in this exuberant program featuring three short works for string quartet by young Australian composers Harry Sdraulig, Holly Harrison and Joseph Twist and Schubert’s masterpiece, his String Quintet written shortly before his death, aged 31. 

Harrison, Sdraulig and Twists’s works are inventive, evocative and arresting, with chromatic twists and turns and pulsating rhythmic impetus.  

Schubert’s Quintet, distinctive for its scoring of two cellos, is a work of extraordinary melodic expression and inventiveness; with the second cello adding a depth of tonality and sonority.  Imbued with dance-like gypsy rhythms, the Quintet remains a defining work in the chamber music repertory.  

Featuring ACO cellist Julian Thompson; former ACO violinist Glenn Christensen; SSO principal players and former Tinalley String Quartet members Justin Williams and Lerida Delbridge; and Chroma Quartet cellist Eliza Sdraulig.
