Blacklips Performance Cult, a Re-Visitation
Event description
This two-day ‘visitation’ will feature a small representative group of participants of the Blacklips Performance Cult (BLPC), a goth queer performance troupe that acted out dozens of self-produced plays—many expressing a strong ecofeminist, queer ethic—in New York’s Pyramid Club in the early 1990s. The guest artists will include Lost Forever (Actor, co-editor of Blacklips: Her Life and her Many, Many Deaths + BLPC member), Lambert Moss aka Ebony Jet (Actor, Vocalist + BLPC Member), Michael Cavadias aka Claywoman aka Lily of the Valley (Actor + BLPC Member), Lia Gangitano (Founder + Director of PARTICIPANT, INC, NY), and Jill Casid (Professor of Visual Studies, University of Wisconsin-Madison) who, together, will explore what it meant to perform gender (differently) at the time of the group’s emergence, and now, in the 2020s.Â
