"I’ve got a short film idea, now how do I get it made?"

You have an idea for a short film or television program, but how do you turn that initial concept into something audiences can actually watch?

Join filmmaker and producer Stig Wemyss of Mezzanine Films and Kristy Fuller of 1440 Productions for an informative evening exploring how screen projects move from ideation through to development, production and distribution.

Stig created the Channel 10 television series Photo Number 6, as well as the screen projects Insufferable and Dying for a Laugh. Kristy produced The Yes Experiment. Drawing on their real-world experience, they will explain how creative ideas are developed into viable productions, pitched to television networks and prepared for audiences.

They will also explore the role short films can play in building a creative portfolio, demonstrating your abilities and gaining entry into film festivals.

The conversation will cover topics including:

Developing an initial idea into a compelling screen concept
Determining whether an idea is better suited to a short film or television program
Creating a pitch that captures the attention of producers and networks
Understanding the practical steps involved in pre-production
Producing and directing a short film with limited resources
Building the right creative and technical team
Preparing a short film for submission to film festivals
Learning from rejection, feedback and production challenges
Turning one completed project into future opportunities

Following the presentation and audience Q&A, attendees will have the opportunity to network with fellow creative industry professionals. Drinks and nibbles will be provided throughout the evening.

Whether you have a finished screenplay, a rough concept or simply an interest in film and television production, this event will provide practical insights into what it takes to move an idea from your imagination to the screen.
