Event description
The New Yam Festival, known as Iri Ji or Iwa Ji depending on the Igbo dialect, is a major annual celebration among the Igbo people of Nigeria. It marks the end of the yam harvest and the beginning of a new farming season, honoring the yam, known as the "king of crops".
This event is celebrated in diaspora as an important cultural event of Igbo people.
In Western Australia, it is a landmark cultural event of the Igbo Association of WA. We come together in colourful fashion to commune, dance, eat and enjoy the endless cultural entertainment that is showcased throughout the night.
