BASIC- 'Basic Assessment and Support in Intensive Care'
accredited course (nationally certified).

This two-day course is primarily designed as an introduction to Intensive Care for medical staff wishing to work in the ICU. This course is also suitable for senior critical care nurses, ED doctors, and other senior medical staff who are responsible for caring for critically unwell and rapidly deteriorating patients.

This course consists of clinically based lectures and skill stations, with a pre- and post-course test. There is also pre-reading from the BASIC course manual to best prepare participants for a two-day immersive educational experience.

Topics include:

• Airway management

• Acute Respiratory Failure incl. NIV and Mechanical Ventilation

• Haemodynamic monitoring and managing arrhythmias

• Management of Shock and Sepsis

• ABG interpretation

• Metabolic disorders and electrolyte disturbances

• ALS

• General assessment, management and treatment of critically unwell patients.
