Doctors for the Environment Australia's is pleased to announce its annual conference will this year be held at the University of Queensland in Brisbane over three days 14-16th July 2023.

Queensland is thrilled to be hosting for the first time since 2016, and the iDEA committee look forward to welcoming you.

This year’s theme will be “Surviving and Thriving”, as we aim to adapt to the challenges of the future while prioritising wellbeing in all spheres, ranging from the individual to planetary.

Our program commences on Friday 14 July with a 3 hour workshop by the Climate Media Centre, followed by two days of academic sessions and workshops. Sessions include:

Our workshop session on Saturday afternoon will be three workshops held concurrently, please choose one only. These sessions are available for in person delegates only.

- Workshop One: Cultivating Hope in the Time of the Climate Emergency

This is an experiential workshop to help people air some of the painful feelings they have about the climate crisis, and to learn techniques for making room for uncomfortable feelings, cultivate a perspective of active hope, and increase one's capacity to be present and focus on what matters in the context of the climate emergency.

Facilitated by Dr Susie Burke, environmental psychologist and therapist.

- Workshop Two: The Doctor as Advocate: Introduction to Campaigning

Come along to this interactive workshop as we explore the background to advocacy, touch on DEA goals and discuss what it takes to run a successful campaign. Whether your interest lies in small scale shift in your workplace, or tackling political reform, this workshop will provide a framework for making change happen.

Facilitated by Dr Kate Wylie, DEA Chair, and Dr Richard Yin, DEA Deputy Chair.

- Workshop Three: Designing a carbon literacy program for climate-mitigation in healthcare

A workshop providing a shared understanding of the polycrisis that the world is facing and examining the key components of and pathways to developing a carbon literacy program for the Australian healthcare sector based on the Carbon Literacy Project learning framework.

Facilitated by Roxane Valier-Brasier, Principal Consultant Sustainability Projects and Carbon Literacy Facilitator, UQ Business School, University of Queensland.

Choosing which workshop you wish to attend when purchasing your ticket helps the facilitator plan the session, however if you are not sure you can wait until the day and attend a session of your choice.*

For those attendees who will be in QLD we invite you to join us at the UQ Anthropology Museum on the evening of Saturday 15 July to connect with new and old friends who share your passion for surviving and thriving!

Or for the early birds, join Professor Hugh Possingham on Sunday 16 July for a guided early morning walk exploring the birdlife of Brisbane.
