November's Yarn

Founders Bianca Hunt and Sarah Lisle welcome special guest Alfred Chidembo, from the heart of Africa comes one of Australia’s most inspirational storytellers with an ancient message that is revolutionising workplace culture. Join us for an exclusive session on Ubuntu, "I am because we are", grounded in interconnectedness and humanity, essential elements within the IDG Framework, as we embark on this transformative journey together.

More about the session

Harnessing the Power of Ubuntu: Building High-Performing Teams and Thriving Communities through Inner Development In this engaging session, we will explore how the ancient African philosophy of Ubuntu—"I am because we are"—provides a powerful framework for building high-performing teams, fostering great organizational cultures, and creating thriving communities. Rooted in the interconnectedness of humanity, Ubuntu teaches us that individual success is intrinsically linked to collective well-being, making it an ideal foundation for developing collaboration, empathy, and leadership in any environment.
Drawing connections to the Inner Development Goals (IDGs), this talk will reveal how the principles of Ubuntu can guide personal growth and social impact. The IDGs outline five essential areas—Being, Thinking, Relating, Collaborating, and Acting—which correspond closely with the core tenets of Ubuntu. By embracing these goals, individuals and teams can cultivate the skills needed for personal well-being, inclusive leadership, and meaningful social contributions.

Key takeaways from this session include:

Understanding Ubuntu as a philosophy for shared leadership and collective growth.
How Ubuntu principles can enhance personal development through the lens of the Inner Development Goals.
Practical strategies for applying Ubuntu to foster empathy, resilience, and high performance within teams.
Ways to use the IDGs framework to align personal growth with organizational and community impact.
This session is designed for leaders, change-makers, and anyone seeking to cultivate a culture of connection, collaboration, and shared success within their organisations and communities.

More about our special guest

From the heart of Africa comes one of Australia’s most inspirational storytellers with an ancient message that is revolutionising workplace culture. After spent the early years of his life in a remote village in Zimbabwe, Alfred learnt to write in the sand at a school that couldn’t afford books. Despite overwhelming odds, he achieved his dream of attending university in Africa and graduating with a doctorate in Electrochemistry in Australia. His remarkable journey - enabled by UBUNTU - has given him a wellspring of hard-won wisdom that everyone, at every echelon, can draw from. As well as being an authentic and inspiring keynote speaker and the 2023 Kerrie Nairn Scholar, he is a dynamic workshop facilitator and high-performance coach. Alfred works with teams to unlock their potential through connections to achieve their desired goals. And, in the true spirit of UBUNTU, he is also the founder of a charity that rescues books from Australian landfills and builds libraries for disadvantaged school children in Africa.
