Ignite Their Futures Information Session “A Parent’s Guide to Support Student Success”

Murray Mallee LLEN in partnership with headspace Swan Hill and Head Start are facilitating a FREE information session for parents/guardians with the aim to educate the community about work experience, Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) placements, School-Based Apprenticeships & Traineeships (SBATs), work and study resources along with the pathways available to their young people and how they can support their children in gaining industry experience and work-related skills to promote and encourage strong future career pathway outcomes from school to work.

The information session will coincide with headspace “Work and Study Month” in March which is a national event shining a light on the important link between work, study and the important contribution to young people's mental health and wellbeing.

PANELISTS:

• Kerryn Zanker, Murray Mallee LLEN School To Work Coordinator
  • Introducing parents/guardians and the community to the School To Work Portal, how to access this and how to search and request work placements with your children to support your student's success in with world of work
    
    
• Hayley Neuschafer, headspace Swan Hill Senior Clinician
  • Creating discussion around headspace Swan Hill's Work and Study resource to assist young people in exploring career and study options, how they can get support with their resume and cover letter, interview tips and building their confidence to thrive in their work and/or study
     
    
• Kristen Noles, Head Start Coordinator
  
  • Educate parents/guardians on the Head Start program and how this program assists and supports their young person in starting and completing a School-Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship (SBAT)
    
    
• Jayne Stead, Swan Hill District Health Education Manager
  • Educate parents/guardians about what an employer expects from a student completing work experience and the benefits to students gaining industry and work-related skills while still completing their schooling
    
    
• Anna Steicke, St Mary MacKillop College Career Pathways Team
  • Educate parents/guardians about the Careers/Pathways Team within a secondary college setting and how both parents and students can have further conversations about support with pathways and career choices
    
    
• Hayden Hogan, Country Universities Centre Mallee (CUC Mallee) Centre Manager
  • Overview of the communities NEW Country Universities Centre and how students can utilise this space; parents/guardians will gain understanding around local support for further study pathways and opportunities for school leavers completing further study
    
    

This is a fantastic opportunity for parents/guardians and the community to come along to an information session and find out more about the local support they have to ignite their children's futures and support their students on their pathway to success!
