Tuesday 26 May, 9:30am–3:00pm
Tumut Wetlands – via Old Gundagai Road off Gocup Road

About the workshop
This workshop will show how practical First Nations land management can drive biodiversity recovery and strengthen the health of the Tumut Wetlands. Guided by cultural fire practitioners, Landcare and the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT), participants will explore how cultural burning works alongside weed control and planting to restore wetland ground‑layer vegetation and habitat.

What you’ll experience

  • Walk‑through of the 2025 cultural burn site, discussing changes in vegetation and lessons learned.

  • Demonstration of low‑intensity cultural burning techniques (conditions permitting).

  • Group discussions around the cultural significance of wetlands and riparian flood plains.

  • Group discussions on Private Land Conservation and the role of the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust.

  • Group discussions on combining cultural fire, community planting and ongoing weed management in a multi‑year restoration program.
