Can business be the sustainability messiah we need?
Description
In an age of polycrisis, who has both the potential capability and interest to get on with addressing the serious issues we face as communities, economies and individuals? Civil society has the energy and enthusiasm but lacks the structural power and financial resources to deliver the change they envisage. Governments have historically organised and led reforms that have reshaped daily living, but seem stuck in a 24 hour news cycle, short termism and political posturing over common sense decision making. Lastly, businesses of all sizes, forms and constitutions exist to succeed both in the short and long term. A desire for literal sustainability - that is, to exist now, tomorrow and in the years to come - means businesses have a unique opportunity and responsibility in the here and now to be the drivers of what our future entails.
This night will bring together both Finding Nature Golden Ticket winners with Bob Carr and leading business sustainability professionals to discuss, speculate about and ruminate on the role businesses can, should and will need to play in balancing financial outcomes with the best interests of our society while existing within the natural limits of our planet. Not an easy task, but something an increasing number of people realise is critical for not only the perpetuation of economic prosperity and wellbeing, but to maintain and resuscitate thenatural world we all depend upon.
Our special guest on the night is Lachlan Feggans who by day is the Senior Director of Sustainability at Brambles, who were recently ranked fourth on a list of 500 companies. Brambles led its industry category and was the only company in the Transport, Logistics and Aviation sector to rank in the top 100. Aiming to highlight corporate responsibility and promote sustainable practices, TIME Magazine’s inaugural list was compiled following rigorous methodology. Statista, a global data and business intelligence platform, assessed some 5,000 companies around the world based on more than 20 key performance indicators, ultimately awarding 500 companies for their transparency and commitment to sustainability goals and initiatives. By night, weekends and any other time he can find, Lachlan is a hobby farmer. He is one of the great guys of our profession and I'm looking forward to hearing how he has led their efforts over ten years to end up in this prestigious position.
Finding Nature will provide you with all the food and beverages you could need in one night. Our best friend @Gus_tronomy is on the food, while @Grifter Brewing, @Ester Spirits and @PnV Wine Merchants.
This night is invite only.
