Illawarra Folk Club presents Claire Roberts in Concert with Russ Churcher and Mark Ballesi

ALMOST HOME with CLAIRE ROBERTS

Twelve months ago, long-time Illawarra Folk Club member Claire Roberts and her husband guitarist Glenn Bowker moved south of the border to country Victoria, Claire’s home state.

Claire is coming back to Wollongong for one concert only.

For this show, Claire has drawn on her past influences from when she was with the Australiana band Pinchgut which held a three year residency in The Rocks in Sydney, performing in the Jolly Swagman Show, her love of folk and her own original songs. Her latest album is called ‘Storyteller’, a very fitting title because her original material weaves stories of her own life experiences as a full time musician and her love of Australian folk music.

Her husband Glenn can’t make this trip with her, but guitarist Allan Vander Linden will be adding his guitar expertise for this one-off concert. She will be joined by Russell Churcher and Mark Ballesi plus some local poets including our own Russell Hannah. With such a stellar line up, this show featuring an “Australiana” theme with stories of Australia in poetry and song including Claire’s originals, this is a show not to be missed.

Russell’s vocals and guitar accompaniment are beautifully enhanced by Mark’s tasteful dobro, banjo and vocal-harmony input. Their relaxed and down-to-earth style is sure to appeal to a wide range of musical tastes.

In this instance, Mark and Russell will be presenting a selection of original and traditional Australiana-themed material.

The concert start at 4 PM. We will provide afternoon tea and you bring your own other drinks. Tickets are $20/$25
