Illawarra Folk Club presents When Woody Met Pete
Event description
WHEN WOODY MET PETE : THE SONGS OF WOODY GUTHRIE AND PETE SEEGER
Peter Hicks and Maurie Mulheron present their new show exploring the songs and stories that made Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger two of the most influential musicians of the twentieth century.
The concert features the songs of Guthrie, who inspired generations of singer-songwriters, and Seeger, the most boycotted, banned, blacklisted, and picketed musician in American history. Their chance meeting in 1940 changed the course of musical history sparking the world-wide folk music revival.
You’ll get a chance to hear, and sing along to classic folk songs like If I Had a Hammer, This Land is Your Land, Union Maid, Midnight Special, Turn! Turn Turn! and many more.
Maurie and Peter will take you on a musical journey from the 1930s and 40s, through to the post-war optimism, the blacklists of the frightened ‘fifties, to the protest movements of the 1960s, and beyond.
Peter Hicks and Maurie Mulheron are well-known singer-songwriters on the folk music circuit playing clubs, concerts, picket-lines, and festivals here and overseas.
