Illuminating the past: using public records to bring stories to life

Located in North Melbourne, within coo-ee of neighbouring Kensington and Flemington, Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) is the government archive of the State of Victoria. With over 100 kilometres of digital and physical records from 1836 to the present day, PROV is a treasure trove of archival material. Within its walls are inquest files, passenger records, wills and probate, Cabinet records, land and property files, adoption and care leavers records, and thousands of photographs.

Join two locals, a professional historian and a writer and artists, as they share their journeys through the state archives, and discover how history and forgotten characters can be brought to life through public records and the stories within.
