IMAGINE — Community Screening + Potluck Meal
Description
IMAGINE is a powerful, First Nations–led film co-created by the AIME community. The film invites us to re-imagine education, imagination, and what becomes possible when young people and community are centred. The film is being stewarded by Indigenous leaders Jack Manning Bancroft (AIME Founder) and leading author and academic Tyson Yunkaporta, and co-written by hundreds of people during the pandemic. It is being screened nationally in theatres on ONE DAY ONLY -- January 26th, 2026 -- and Digital Storytellers is lucky enough to host a private screening. Other national screenings listed here.
This Sydney screening is hosted as a community impact gathering — bringing together friendship networks, professional networks, families, collaborators, and partners to watch the film together and, for those who choose, share a meal afterwards.
The event is hosted by Digital Storytellers at Impact Story Lab Sydney, in collaboration with Wondiverse and Regen Sydney.
This is not a cinema session or a panel event.
It’s a hosted community screening designed to be welcoming, relational, and inclusive.
Event timing
Doors open: 3:30pm
Film screening + brief facilitated conversation: 4:00–6:00pm
Shared community meal & connection: 6:00–8:00pm
Event closes: 8:00pm
Neuro-friendly & family-friendly design
This event is intentionally designed to be neuro-friendly and family-welcome.
We will set up two distinct spaces:
a screening space for those who want to watch the film together, and
a separate lounge space for children (or adults) who need a break, rest, or quieter engagement.
There is no expectation that anyone must remain seated or engaged for the full screening.
After the film
Following the screening, we’ll hold:
a brief, facilitated 20-minute conversation to set the tone for community connection, and
a short moment for:
Digital Storytellers and the Stories From Country initiative to be named, and
our event partners — Wondiverse and Regen Sydney — to briefly share who they are and why they’re here.
This will be light-touch and time-held before we move into the meal.
Shared meal (important)
The shared meal from 6:00–8:00pm is opt-in and by dish contribution only.
The meal is not included in the ticket price.
Participation in the meal is for those who are able and willing to bring a dish to share. We have some facilities for heating food, but cooking onsite will be challenging at scale.
A Google spreadsheet will be shared with ticket holders to:
coordinate dishes, and
note dietary requirements or allergies.
BYO drinks are welcome, with care for the family-friendly environment we’re creating.
Capacity & seating
Tickets are capped at 60 people
Seating will include a mix of chairs, stools, and bean bags
This is a relaxed, non-theatre environment — you’re welcome to move, stand, or step in and out as needed.
Stories From Country
This screening sits within Stories From Country, a body of work by Digital Storytellers that explores how we learn with Country through story, listening, and relationship. Hosting this film is a way of creating shared space — to sit together, witness First Nations–led storytelling, and begin or deepen conversations about how we show up, learn, and walk alongside one another with care and responsibility.
