IMAGINISTA QUARTET with SPECIAL GUEST CHRIS MOORE
Description
Imaginista Quartet
Formed in 2024, Imaginista Quartet have been thrilling audiences throughout Melbourne in their annual concert series at Tempo Rubato and beyond. They are renowned for their exciting and spontaneous performances, and they play on historically authentic gut strings, which produce a wonderful warm tone. Rave audience and media reviews have lauded the intimate Imaginista Quartet concert experience.
Comprising three former members of the Australian Chamber Orchestra; Zoë Black - Assistant Concertmaster, Maja Savnik - Violin, Caroline Henbest - Principal Viola, and joined by cellist of the Firebird trio, Josephine Vains, this group has big ambitions as they seek to connect with audiences around Australia and overseas. They will record their debut CD with bassoonist Lyndon Watts for international release in 2027.
Christopher Moore
Christopher Moore has spent a lifetime persuading audiences that the viola really is the most interesting instrument in the orchestra. After ten years as Principal Viola of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, he joined the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra as Principal Viola in 2015.
An enthusiastic chamber musician, teacher and occasional theremin player, Christopher treasures making music with close friends, but is happiest sharing the stage with his partner, violinist Zoë Black. Whether performing a beloved masterpiece, a forgotten curiosity or something brand new, he believes that great performances should combine imagination, warmth and a healthy sense of humour and that violists deserve far more jokes in which they emerge victorious. After all, those jokes can all be transposed up a fifth and down an octave.
