Immerse Labs: Gabriel Sinclair & Jazmyn Carter
Event description
Immerse Lab with Gabriel Sinclair & Jazmyn Carter
Join Gabriel Sinclair and Jazmyn Carter for a 2 hour Lab exploring the choreographic systems, languages, and methodologies they have created for their award-nominated new dance work Superposition. This Lab is open to two participatory roles; dancers and algorithm artists.
Dancers will learn an excerpt from the work, develop your own ruleset and patterns collaboratively, and explore dance-led evolving soundscapes. Bring a notebook, your dancing brain, and your thinking body!
If you are interested in participating with patterns, algorithms, and logic trees, but would rather not dance, you are welcome to join the Lab as an algorithm artist! Please bring a pen and paper.
We invite you to attend the studio showing of Superposition before the Immerse Lab. This is optional, but recommended. Please reserve your spot to the showing by booking a "Superposition Showing + Immerse Lab" ticket.
Showing + Feedback (optional): 1:00-2:15pm
Break: 2:15-2:30pm
Immerse Lab: 2:30-4:30pm
Superposition is a contemporary dance duet by Jazmyn Carter and Gabriel Sinclair with complexly patterned choreography and an evolving soundscape. Now being developed into a full length work, Superposition invites the audience to engage with this intricate relationship in a thought-provoking performance that bridges the gap between science and art. The 30 minute version of Superposition was presented at Dancehouse in 2024, and was nominated for a Green Room Award and two Melbourne Fringe Awards.
This Lab is presented in partnership with Canberra Theatre Centre's New works and sector development program.
