Absorption into OM

The seed sound of the sacred mantra OM is often chanted at the beginning and end of a yoga class with little to no attention as to why we would utilise this potent syllable in between.

This 1.5 hr hatha yoga class will take you on a journey through mantra infused movement, breath and contemplation building to a meditative practice. The intention is to help you connect to symbology of the mantra OM through a lived experience.

Yoga traditions mention that OM is the primordial sound from which all other sound and creation unfolded. It is believed to be the vibrational resonance of the the universe. When we chant OM during a movement practice, the benefits are multitudinous and positively powerful. We naturally lengthen the exhalation which helps to restore the rest and digest portion of our nervous system. The sound helps to centre, anchor and focus the mind thus creating space for the deeper facets, often buried under all the noise, of our being to be heard. Vibrationally, OM calibrates our level of consciousness to connect with a higher perspective which may balance and rejuvenate the body/mind system to a more harmonious state.

For these reasons and more, traditionally mantra was always used in concert with a movement practice. The Western yogi tends to focus primarily on the physical aspects of a practice, which will have positive benefits but rarely skims the surface of the huge spectrum of the healing potential that the complete yoga practice has to offer.

This is an open level class, no experience is necessary merely an open mind!

All mats and necessary equipment is provided. Wear comfortable light clothing that you can move freely in and BYO water bottle.
