Description

Respect Country with Bradley Mapiva Brown

Join us for our next Impact Hour with Ngunnawal Traditional Owner, cultural consultant and artist Bradley Mapiva Brown.

Bradley will share reflections on Yindjumarra Dhawura, a Ngunnawal principle meaning “Respect Country” and what it means to begin with Country in the way we design places, make decisions and build relationships.

Together, we’ll explore Country-centred design, cultural governance, and how organisations and communities can move beyond consultation towards genuine, lasting partnerships with Traditional Custodians.

Impact Hour is a monthly conversation series presented by Canberra Environment Centre, Conservation Council ACT Region, Landcare ACT and SEE-Change Canberra. Come along to learn, connect and be part of the conversation.

Bio: Bradley Mapiva Brown is a Ngunnawal Traditional Owner, cultural consultant and artist working across Country-centred design, cultural governance, heritage and community engagement. As Managing Director of Bagariin Ngunnawal Cultural Consulting, Bradley works to ensure Ngunnawal knowledge, cultural values and connection to Country meaningfully inform the way places and projects are shaped. Central to Bradley’s practice is Yindjumarra Dhawura, a Ngunnawal principle meaning “Respect Country.” It guides his approach to working with Country and building genuine relationships between Traditional Custodians, government, industry and the wider community.

Bradley has contributed to the National Gallery of Australia’s Sculpture Garden revitalisation and currently serves as Deputy Chair of the ACT Heritage Council. His work explores the connection between cultural heritage, Country, the built environment and our shared responsibility to care for a place. At this Impact Hour, Bradley will share his experiences and reflections on Yindjumarra Dhawura, what it means to begin with Country, and how respectful partnerships with Traditional Custodians can move beyond consultation towards meaningful and lasting collaboration.
