Impact in Focus: Showcasing Heart Foundation Research is an event designed to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among leading researchers in our community. Join us at the Heart Foundation Office for an exclusive opportunity to meet with Heart Foundation staff and network with your peers.

  • Inspiring research presentations: Gain insights from three esteemed researchers - Dr Kathy Trieu, Professor Steven Wise and Dr Lauren Houston- as they share updates on their current research projects.  
  • Networking Opportunities: Connect with fellow researchers and Heart Foundation staff to exchange ideas, collaborate, and explore innovative solutions for cardiovascular health.
  • Afternoon Tea: Following the presentations, enjoy afternoon tea refreshments while connecting with your peers.   

Speakers:   

Dr Kathy Trieu

Dr Kathy Trieu is a renowned expert in sodium reduction and food policy, dedicated to scaling evidence-based nutrition strategies to prevent cardiovascular diseases. Her work includes transitioning the global salt supply to potassium-enriched salt and adapting Food is Medicine programs for underserved communities. As Co-Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre on Salt Reduction and a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at UNSW, Dr Trieu collaborates with governments and NGOs worldwide to shape impactful nutrition policies.

Professor Steven Wise

Professor Steven Wise is a globally recognised expert in developing biocompatible materials and devices for vascular applications. Leading multidisciplinary teams, his groundbreaking work focuses on creating innovative stents, valves, grafts, and nanotherapies to advance cardiovascular disease treatment.

Dr Lauren Houston

Dr Lauren Houston is an expert in clinical trial management, specialising in cardiovascular research. She leads innovative global trials on heart disease, type 2 diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and cardio-oncology. Her current focus is preventing heart disease in women, with groundbreaking projects exploring the links between cancer and heart disease risks and leveraging routine mammograms to predict heart disease.
