Event description

Entrées for Spontaneity

An experience for the curious. No experience is needed — it’s an entrée, after all. Small bites, big flavour.

Improvisation is the practice of accepting what is in front of us and responding spontaneously. The capabilities that improvised theatre actors need to work together are the skills we need to live today. We need to notice more, listen with our whole bodies, and respond boldly with joy. The Entrée is a dip into a core improvisational capacity, with this entrée focusing on spontaneity.

Spontaneity is our capacity to respond, in the moment, without worrying about what we might say. Spontaneity is what happens when we give our inner editor a much-deserved tea break, when we move from being a critic to a creator. This session will use simple, playful games to explore what it’s like to be spontaneous. It’s full body, big grin learning. Afterwards, you’ll have an opportunity to reflect on and share what you’ve learned, and what you might want to take back with you to daily life.

Please aim to arrive ten minutes early and wear clothing you feel comfortable moving around in, and a notepad and pen for reflections. Free parking is available on-site, or on streets adjacent to the building.

Profits from this event go to our charitable partner, the Perth Improvised Theatre Society.

When you sign up, we’ll add you to our newsletter. We email weekly-ish, with our Only the Human newsletter focused on our events and courses, and our Perspective Shift newsletter focused on improvisation at work. You can unsubscribe or change your preferences at any time.
