Comedy Culture NZ presents Rebecca Mary Gwendolon’s much beloved annd award-winning improv workshop “Improvise More Like Scooby Doo” in Otautahi for the first time!

Kia ora koutou, this is me Rebecca here to tell you about the workshop :)

This is a 3 hour improv workshop and is suitable for all experience levels, though I suggest it may be more beneficial to those with at least a year of classes/workshops under their belt.

I have been reflecting on what qualities make a ‘good’ improvisor, someone who enjoys improv, and other people enjoy watching them and playing with them. I have decided that the ultimate inspiration for improvisers may just be famous dog-tective Scooby Doo. Hear me out:

He’s an amazing team member, he goes along with plans and adapts easily
Really present with his emotions
Feels the fear but jumps in anyway
Invested in the wellbeing of his friends/teammates
Amazing dog physicality

This workshop will explore these qualities to see how we can improvise more like Scooby Doo!

Expect games, scenes, personal reflection, Scooby Doo close readings, and (Scooby) snacks.

WINNER “Best Workshop” at New Zealand Improv Festival 2025.

Previously presented at Bats Theatre in Wellington, Improv Theatre Sydney in Australia, and Basement Theatre in Auckland.
